Spleven, a Tricount alternative
Tricount is free and widely used. If you miss a web version, an export, repeating payments or several payers on one expense, Spleven has them, for free and without ads.
In a browser as well as on phones
Tricount closed its web version in 2024. Spleven runs on Android, iPhone and at web.spleven.com, so friends without the app can join and add payments from a computer or any phone, without an account.
Each person's home currency
Tricount converts to the group currency. Spleven converts every payment to each person's own home currency at the rate of the payment's day and keeps that rate, so totals don't move later.
Export, repeating payments, several payers
Spleven exports a group as CSV or PDF; Tricount sends an export only on request by email. Rent, subscriptions and other regular costs repeat on their own in Spleven; Tricount has no repeating expenses. And one payment can have several payers, which Tricount does not allow.
Places and payment methods
Every payment keeps the place it was paid, and with Spleven Plus the group map shows them all. Payment methods such as card, cash or a kitty get their own totals in the statistics. Tricount has neither.

Photograph a bill and Spleven reads every line; tap who had what, and the tip is shared out for you. Tricount keeps receipt photos but does not read them.
Where Tricount leads
Tricount has far more users, with over 10 million downloads on Google Play, and 37 languages to Spleven's 18. It has payment request links in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium, archived groups you can restore, and an import from Splitwise. Spleven has none of these.
Both are free with no limit on expenses or groups. Tricount is fully free and belongs to the bank bunq since 2022. Spleven is made by an independent developer in Switzerland and paid for by Spleven Plus, an optional purchase for receipt scanning and the group map.
Moving over
Spleven cannot import a Tricount. The simplest way is to start your next trip or month in Spleven. To carry over what is still owed, enter each reimbursement Tricount suggests as one payment, paid by the person who is owed, for the person who owes.
